Legacy of the Pony

  This game has been out for a couple of months now, but it's never too late to post about projects, I think! Legacy of the Pony, created by DeftFunk, is a non-linear Metroidvania-style platformer starring Spike as he ventures through a sprawling cave system to rescue Rarity from the Diamond Dogs. To complete their journey, players will need to locate the Elements of Harmony hidden deep in every corner of the game world.. A variety of powerups and collectibles are littered throughout the game to help Spike on his quest, and a map system helps keep players from getting lost. The game has an 8-bit aesthetic reminiscent of Game Boy games, which provides a bit of charm.

 The game can be downloaded from Dropbox (with a Spanish version available for some of the international readers out there), and it has its own subreddit for discussion on the game. I've barely scratched the surface of the game so far; this post may see updates in the near future with further impressions as I progress.

My Little Karaoke

 For the third time in a row, the My Little Karaoke team has released a new batch of songs for aspiring horsefamous singers to destroy their vocal cords to. War of Harmony Platformer Beta

A mechanics experiment by the creator of the War of Harmony series, this game has no plot and is still a bit rough around the edges, but it's worth check out if only to give the creator some feedback. That being said, the creator is currently on hiatus. Either way, nothing to put after the break. Download's up above, creator's tumblr is here.

Pony Petting Simulator: Applejack

If you feel like relaxing for a few minutes and you think Applejack is best pony, this may be the game for you. It's an interactive simulator. Maybe you've seen or played games like this before, but if you haven't, it's a game where you can interact with the character, usually by petting them or scratching their ears, trying to get them to like(or dislike) you. There aren't a lot of things to do in this one, but it does have enough interactions and the animation is good enough to keep you entertained for a good five minutes. Now go! Start petting!

Patapony

Patapony is a rhythm-based game inspired by the game Patapon. Here you control an entire army of Pinkie Pies and lead them through a few different stages, using your drums to create three different combinations that tell the Pinkies what to do, namely March, Attack and Defend.

While there aren't many levels, they certainly were enough to game over me once or twice, and it's really fun to play. It starts off a little hard due to unfamiliarity, but once you get the hang of it everything goes a lot smoother.

Now, get out there and start drummin' so your Pinkies can follow.

Canterlot Siege 3: Inversion

 Hot off the queue of things that have lingered in our inbox for a depressingly long time, Canterlot Siege 3: Inversion is the latest entry in the line of Flash-powered tower defense games by futzi01 starring characters from the MLP universe. The main difference in this one is that now you're playing as the villains, trying to stop the good guys from reclaiming their home. Gameplay-wise, notable additions include the ability to place boss characters - fully upgraded attackers with special attack patterns - and additional variety in the level choices, going from the old design philosophy of different paths in a grassy field to levels with some actual variety in them, even if only visually. The game does get difficult fast - as someone not well-versed in tower defense games, I struggled to make it very far my first few rounds - but it becomes more manageable with practice.

 At this point I mostly post these things to keep a log of them. Most of the people interested in this game probably follow the author and played it months ago.

Legends of Equestria

 For those who haven't been following updates on the game's site, the Legends of Equestria team will be running an open server weekend this January, from the 24th to the 26th, to test a new server system. Just about any comment I could make about the game has already been said, so check out their news post on their site or below the break.

How do you like to celebrate the new year? Either spending time with family, or partying with friends? Inclined to stay up all night one day and sleep in the next? However you spend this time of year, I personally like to celebrate it with ponies and more ponies - and now you can too!

Tune in later this month, from the 24th to the 26th, and you'll find that the servers will be open for all of you to come in and enjoy the game! We can all have fun playing, dancing, doing quests, fighting monsters, or just sittin' in the town square with your buds.

The new build will be available on the 22nd of January at our downloads page. On the 24th, the servers will open at 12:01 AM EST and close on the 26th at 11:59 PM EST.
We have recently created a new server system, which so far has proven to be far more secure than the previous system. This is a test of the new system. Please remember that you must have a forum account in order to log in and play the game.

Everyone here on the team hopes to have some great fun together with you to kick off the new year, and we hope you'll join us for it! Roll on 2015!

HorseGame

After around a year and a half of development, the team at Equidev (formerly SprakleDev) finally has a new update concerning a new public demo of their project, HorseGame. For those unaware, HorseGame is a 3D platformer inspired by games like Ratchet and Clank, wherein you play as an unnamed unicorn and fight off enemies with various attacks and spells.

 While the demo itself isn't quite out yet, the dev team did send us this trailer to post, as well as an announcement to share, which I've placed just past the page break. Read on for more about the project and the demo!

 Over at Equidev we’ve been working away quietly for the past couple months on HorseGame, a 3D action-adventure platformer taking its roots from games like Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, and Okami. Bringing various elements from the show and from games like these together, we aim to create a game with its own feel in the genre. HorseGame‘s core gameplay has now gotten to a state we’re content with, so we are excited to announce that we will soon be releasing a demo featuring much of the progress we’ve made.

 In the demo you will be free to explore a large, open map filled with different types of enemies to fight, spells and items to collect, and even a few easter eggs to find. The map has been made exclusively for this demo to feature our game without spoiling the story. Watch the trailer for it if you haven’t already.

HorseGame Demo

 Hey, remember that HorseGame thing we posted about earlier? Well, the team at EquiDev has now released the demo for public consumption, which can be downloaded from their site. It contains one playable area with a variety of enemies, collectibles and spells to entertain oneself with. I've already said all about the game that I can in the last article, so I'll cut straight to the chase and post their announcement below the break.

We’re pleased to announce the release of the much anticipated HorseGame demo! Taking place on the grounds of an abandoned monastery overlooking the pristine coastal waters of Saddle Greccia, the playable area is about the size of a 12-16 player multiplayer map and is packed with a variety of enemies, collectables, and combinable spells to play around with.

Available for Windows, OSX, and Linux, you can find the download for the demo on our site, and you can also find the gameplay trailer here. We’d like you to keep in mind that this is still an early demo of the game, so what you see here will still be undergoing many changes before the release of the full game.

The full HorseGame will be a free, 3D action-adventure platformer, where we aim to make the Adventure Mode a fully fleshed-out experience complete with voice acting and cutscenes. Alongside Adventure Mode, you will be able to duke it out with friends online in our arena-style match mode, where the combat will be based on what exists in adventure mode, but modified and balanced around player vs. player gameplay.

To address concerns some of you have had: We currently believe it is not likely for Horsegame to be C&D’d since the game features entirely original settings and characters. This will also be true for the full game.

 Project H.O.A.R.S.E., created (and sent to us on Twitter) by Phirenor, is... a strange little dogfighting tech demo. You can give your horse different guns and a customized color scheme which never seems to apply right, and then send it into battle with a bunch of cloned pegasi. Everything flies around like a plane, starts smoking after taking damage, and then explodes. And if you touch the terrain at all, you have to restart the game. It's an alright way to kill a few bored minutes, I suppose, and it's not like you have to download anything (except the Unity player plugin) to try it out.

 News has been slow lately.

Cutie Mark Unmagic

 Hot on the nonexistent trails of the lack of news about season 5 of that one horse show, futzi01 has another one of those Flash games he always makes. This time, the concept is six minigames centered around one-upping each member of the main cast at some part of their special talents, sending them face-first into crushing show spoilers and the endless wait for more drips of information. If all six of the minigames are beaten in one sitting, your reward is a screen ranting about the excessive commercialization of a show designed primarily to sell toys.

Pony Rush

 For those who need a little bit of pony on the go, Pony Rush is a simple cloud-doger game for Android smartphones. (And as clever people could figure out from the title, you play as a pony. I don't know her name.) There are two modes; an endurance mode where you fly until hitting a cloud, and a time attack mode where the goal is to reach the end as quickly as possible. There isn't a lot of depth (nor sound; put on your music library while you play, I guess), but the best scores for each mode are stored, so pursuing a new best might be a good way to kill a few idle minutes. The game ran fine on my underclocked Galaxy SII, and no special permissions are required, so it shouldn't be difficult to run the game on any decent phone.

Derpy: Mystery of the Apple Thief

Derpy: Mystery of the Apple Thief is a pixel art platformer made by Starlight Studios where you play as Derpy and go on a quest to save Fluttershy, who has gone missing and coincidentally right after that apples everywhere are disappearing. Hmmm, I wonder why is that?

Since this is a pretty short game, I won't go into detail about it. It's a little too easy for my taste, but if you want something to relax for a good ten minutes, this might be for you.

My Little Karaoke

 Last night, the team behind My Little Karaoke - an UltraStar song pack chock-full of brony music and other things, and pretty much the only thing in our karaoke tag - released a new update. Unlike previous updates, this one contains no new songs, but instead is focused on the game itself, moving to a brand-new launcher and engine with support for things like online leaderboards, duet songs, and a system to facilitate quicker song releases. Check their release post for more information.

Between other projects of mine and personal life things, there hasn't been much time to devote to playing through fangames to write individual posts. Gardens of Equestria

[Information]

 Picture: The desert city of New Pegasus. Two hundred years after the megaspells went off. A simple courier embarks on what should have been a simple delivery. But after a fateful ambush, the courier is left for dead in the wastes. When she awakens, she finds the world…changed. Almost as if another world had been imposed upon her own.

 A Fallout: New Vegas mod loosely inspired by the popular Fallout: Equestria story. I couldn't find much concrete information about it from the site, so the trailer will have to make do.

Lemonade

[Mod (Work-in-progress)]

 An Ultimate Doom mod designed for ZDoom. Three ponies (Lemonade, Tracer, Oblivion) are sent into town at Oblivion Bay to address a situation about some monsters invading. As they seek for its source, the adventure begins. (Currently in an alpha state, with nine maps completed but missing some content, according to the developer.)

Legends of Equestria

How's everyone doing today? It's me, Enigma Sage, coming to you live from the swirling, primordial mists of the Equestria Gaming of yesteryear, and I'm here to bring you some fresh LoE news.

For those of you headed to Bronycon this weekend, the team behind the ever-popular MMO Legends of Equestria will be there to showcase the game's latest developments in their panel on August 7. In addition, the team will be hosting one of their trademark Open Server Weekends August 14-16 so you can test out these additions for yourself. For more info, head on over to their website, or check out their announcement after the break.


Hi again, everyone! We're pleased as punch to let you all know that we'll be hosting a panel at Bronycon on August 7th; alongside our previously-announced Galacon panel, that means we'll be doing two within a week! Busy times!

Members of the development team will be on-hand in the Hall of the Sun at 9pm; they'll be giving everyone a glimpse of what we're working on right now, talking a little about how we're making the game, and if you're lucky you'll get to ask them a question or two!

And remember, even if you can't make it to Bronycon, there's no need to miss out; our previously-announced Open Server Weekend will be running August 14-16, so we'll all get a chance to explore Equestria together then!

If you've never met me before (it's likely you haven't, especially if you're relatively new to EqG), I'm one of the three authors who wrote for, ran, and administrated Equestria Gaming between 2011 and 2013.
